Join Dr. Robert Walsh of Australian Waterlife as he shares his expertise in assessing water quality and establishing baselines for monitoring ecosystem health. The webinar will focus on the importance of identifying aquatic microfauna as indicators of environmental quality. Although smaller than 2mm, microfauna play such a vital role in keeping ecosystems alive and thriving. They link together everything in aquatic food webs, and if this faunal group is missing for any reason, then the entire system would quickly collapse. It is therefore important for managers of water and sewerage treatment plants, waterways, reservoirs, and wetlands to understand the significance of these animals to environmental monitoring regimes.

Dr. Robert Walsh
Australian Waterlife
Dr. Robert Walsh is a freshwater scientist with over 20 years experience in aquatic micro-invertebrate ecology, limnology and water quality analysis. His career has taken him across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Dr. Walsh has served as a Senior Scientist with CSIRO and the Department of Environment and Heritage. He also previously worked with the Australian Water Quality Centre, identifying microfauna and macro-invertebrates.
In 2005, Dr. Walsh founded Australian Waterlife, a fully equipped laboratory in Victoria that has analysed thousands of aquatic samples to date. Australian Waterlife serves as an independent laboratory and provides subcontract services to larger environmental consulting firms.
