Raingardens

Raingardens or bioretention systems treat stormwater through fine filtration, extended detention and biological uptake

application

Raingardens

Raingardens are self-watering and low maintenance gardens.  They capture stormwater that runs off hard surfaces after it rains and clean the water before it is reused or released into creeks, rivers and waterways

\"rain

How does raingarden work?

Beneath the raingarden are layers of sandy soil. This helps to clean the water and slows the rate of stormwater entering our rivers and creeks. The layers also remove pollution, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, fertilisers, dust, leaves and animal droppings, which are washed off these hard surfaces.

Over time particles can clog the raingarden. A layer of spherical particles of diameter D will prevent the passage of spherical particles of diameter D/6. Once this layer forms, spherical particles of D/36 are retained.

To prevent blocking use StormTech chambers with an Isolator Row™ inside the raingarden. An overflow bypass will allow water to continue entering the soil. Isolator rows can be jetted clean via access from the surface. Jetting removes the layers of retained particles that clog.

\"stormtech\"

The plants in raingardens help to further filter out pollution that would otherwise end up in our rivers and creeks.

By capturing stormwater, raingardens can be self watering and are therefore easier to maintain. They use less drinking water than regular gardens.

Raingardens are rapidly becoming an essential addition to any sustainable garden design, thanks largely to the fact that they have real benefits to the environment and the health of local rivers and creeks.

StormTech chambers are ideal for raingarden applications. One of the key advantages of the StormTech chamber system is design flexibility. StormTech chambers can be configured into beds or trenches, in centralised or decentralised layouts to fit on nearly any site.

We can provide oil separators and gross pollutant traps to meet your raingarden requirements.  This will remove 80 per cent of TSS, 45 per cent of Nitrogen and 45 per cent of Phosphorous and achieve Council specifications.
